29th May 2024
We had an earlier message on our webpage in February 2024 saying that the Disability Services Commissioner will merge with the new Social Services Regulator. We were told the merge would happen on or around 1 July 2024.
The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing have recently advised that the Disability and Social Services Regulation Amendment Bill 2024 currently before the Parliament is unlikely to progress prior to 1 July. This means that the Disability Services Commissioner continues for now until legislation is passed. Further information is on this page Department of Families Fairness and Housing Victoria | Social Services Regulation Reform (dffh.vic.gov.au)

Below is the news item we shared on 2nd February 2024.
The Disability Services Commissioner will merge with the new Social Services Regulator.
It is anticipated that the merge will occur on or around 1 July 2024, when the Regulator commences.
The announcement is detailed in full on the Premier’s media centre page. To view the message please visit A New Social Services Regulator With Stronger Powers | Premier of Victoria
DSC commenced operations on 1 July 2007, and over the years has interacted with people with disability, community stakeholders and service providers, through enquiries, complaints and our extensive promotional and educational activities with focus on the message ‘It’s OK to complain’.
In addition to publishing papers, guides and posters and regular presentations about our work, DSC has undertaken the review of incidents, deaths and conducted investigations of disability service delivery.
In recent years the jurisdiction of DSC has reduced but remains supported by a small group of dedicated staff. This announcement has recognised the important work that remains in resolving complaints, safeguarding and working with providers in the Victorian disability system to improve service outcomes for people with disabilities. That work will continue after the merger in the Social Services Regulator.
