The Australian Research Council project ‘Working Together to Prevent Everyday Harm’ has developed a website called Preventing Everyday Harm. The website shares research and practical resources about how people with disability, disability workers and service providers can work together to prevent and address everyday harm.
People with disability experience everyday harm often. Sometimes the harm goes unnoticed and can be unintentional. For example, a disability worker talks about a person in front of them, not with them.
Everyone can take steps to prevent and address harm. This includes noticing what is happening, acknowledging harm, responding, repairing relationships and making things better.
Resources have been developed to assist people with disability, families, disability workers, providers and leaders. You can access the resources here. The resources include bite sized stories, a board game and downloadable free posters.
Our team recently attended a continuing professional development event hosted by the Victorian Disability Worker Commission (VDWC). The event was for registered disability workers and those with a registration application in progress.
We are sharing these resources because they are useful for a wide range of people.
You can learn more about becoming a registered disability worker with VDWC here.
Please take some time to have a look at the Preventing Everyday Harm website and their resources.
