2nd October 2026
The Victorian Government has appointed Dr Sarah Miller as the new Disability Services Commissioner.
Dr Miller will begin the part-time Commissioner role on 2 November 2026. She was the Coordinator-General for Mental Health and Wellbeing in the ACT and brings more than 20 years’ experience working across government, public health, justice, health and human rights sectors including with the Red Cross in Australia and internationally.
Dr Miller has specialised in mental health, psychosocial support, detention and humanitarian protection, and her experience covers executive leadership, regulatory oversight and governance.
“I am honoured to join the Disability Services Commissioner and continue its important work,” said Dr Miller. “I look forward to working with people with disability, families and carers, service providers and dedicated colleagues to uphold the rights of people with disability to receive high-quality services, and ensure they are heard, respected and supported.”
Since 1 July 2007, the Disability Services Commissioner has worked with people with disability, their carers, and service providers to resolve complaints and improve service safeguards and outcomes.
Our message is clear: It’s OK to complain!
People receiving disability services must feel empowered to make complaints so their concerns can be heard and resolved. Disability service providers need to value complaints as a vital element in improving service outcomes.
This announcement recognises the important work that remains in resolving complaints and strengthening practice across more than 200 registered Victorian disability service providers and 21 regulated advocacy services.
