2nd February 2024
The Disability Services Commissioner will merge with the new Social Services Regulator.
It is anticipated that the merge will occur on or around 1 July 2024, when the Regulator commences.
The announcement is detailed in full on the Premier’s media centre page. To view the message please visit A New Social Services Regulator With Stronger Powers | Premier of Victoria
DSC commenced operations on 1 July 2007, and over the years has interacted with people with disability, community stakeholders and service providers, through enquiries, complaints and our extensive promotional and educational activities with focus on the message ‘It’s OK to complain’.
In addition to publishing papers, guides and posters and regular presentations about our work, DSC has undertaken the review of incidents, deaths and conducted investigations of disability service delivery.
In recent years the jurisdiction of DSC has reduced but remains supported by a small group of dedicated staff. This announcement has recognised the important work that remains in resolving complaints, safeguarding and working with providers in the Victorian disability system to improve service outcomes for people with disabilities. That work will continue after the merger in the Social Services Regulator.
